Heartwarming, 'colourful' story about young Ugandan female chess champion Phiona Mutesi 'Queen of Katwe'. No major surprises in the narrative; film easy to follow and evidently a 'safe' bet for Disney. Not a stand out film from the Director Mira Nair but certainly one she should be proud of. Clear that the producers went to lengths to create the authenticity of an African slum. Set well conceived. Cinematography to die for. Film look picture perfect. Strong performances from the 'names' that appear in the film - Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo. Excellent soundtrack which infused with contemporary African (mainly Afrobeat) artists. Certainly a contender for African film of the year.
