Black

Romeo and Juliet type love story set against the backdrop of urban, multi-cultural Brussels from Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah . A Congolese young woman and Moroccan young man fall for one another crossing problematic racial and gang territory lines. In the midst of the story we exposed to the harness of 21st century innner-city Flemish life. Film play out the modern-black-lives-in-Europe narrative revealing the identity chasm for the children of immigrants and refugees who feel displaced in a society that does not accept them. A helplessness in watching the story unfold knowing it was not going to have a good ending. Point about wasted lives and wasted potential really driven home.
