CINEMA AFRICAIN, Linz - Curatorial Advisor & Facilitator (October 2024)

The first edition of the CINÉMA AFRICAIN! International Film Festival brings the energy and creativity of a young, dynamic Africa to the forefront through the power of film. By showcasing groundbreaking, artistically daring films from Africa and its diaspora, the festival challenges Western stereotypes and fosters a deeper comprehension of the continent and its global influence.

CINÉMA AFRICAIN! engages with social, political, historical, and cultural realities, offering a diverse selection of films that spark dialogue on pressing socio-political issues, while contributing to the richness of Austria’s film landscape. From intimate portraits to socially critical documentaries, the festival provides insight into varied realities and artistic expressions, delving into themes such as mythology, identity, colonialism, feminism, and coming of age – especially through narratives and perspectives by and about women.

Besides its film screenings, the CINÉMA AFRICAIN! program includes a series of special events such as Q&A sessions, a Masterclass, an Expertise Lab, a Panel Discussion, a Lecture Talk, a Nightline, and a vibrant Closing Party.

Join us at our festival venues Moviemento Kino, Kunstuniversität, FIFTITU%, Stadtwerkstatt and Solaris Bar in Linz, Austria.
