Cinematic Reflections screened 5 short fictional films reflecting real events and issues taking place across the Arab world. Among these were music under occupation, access to healthcare and issues of emigration. The panel was hosted by film curator Nadia Denton, in conversation with directors Jimmy Keyrouz, Nesma Zazou and Slimane Bounia.
Syrian Focus brought together short documentaries about events taking place in Syria and their effects on Syrian citizens attempting to escape. From siege in Aleppo to the loss of limbs, attempting to evacuate and then living a healthy life elsewhere, these films weave through experiences borne out of the Syrian war. Hosted by BBC Arabic’s Nawal AlMaghafi, in conversation with directors Lauren Anders Brown, Ali Alibrahim, Marwan AlBayani and Ayyob AlQasem.
